I tried a few AI image generators, this is what I found

Introduction

It's like your mum doing a tech review.
I had an idea for a blogpost and wanted a specific photo to go with it. "That's easy" I thought, I'll use that new AI thing that all the young 'uns are talking about.

Before I start, these outcomes are in no way indicative of the power of the websites I looked at. They can do amazing things. This is just a fun post to show that it's not as easy as you might think to create something beautiful or fit-for-purpose. Like anything, it takes dedication and learning to master it. Kudos to artists of all kinds.

Diving in, I googled "best free ai generated image maker" and found this very useful list  Best Free AI Image Generators - Easy With AI which helpfully provided me with a list of 14 sites to try. I know nothing so I tried 3 random sites in the list.

To make sure it was a proper like-for-like test, I used the same prompt "a photo realistic image of a kindly grandma telling off heartless male consultant types in a minimalist, modern office". Followed the same rudimentary steps: login, paste prompt, click go.

1. First up, dreamlike.art. Not that impressed with my first attempt; clearly my prompt was way inadequate and look at the funky eye area on the lady sat down!

In conclusion, I don't think
a. I am going to take the digital art world by storm.
b. Photographers and artists have to worry too much yet.

I think I'll stick to https://pixabay.com/ attribution and royalty free images for the price of a coffee.

There will always be the artistically challenged amongst us who need you my creative friends.

Till next time
